Over the years, dental implants have become the treatment of choice to replace missing teeth. If you wear dentures currently fixed or movable, or you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants may improve your quality of life. The dental implant is the only treatment that replaces the crown and root of the tooth.

An implant is shaped like a small screw and is made of titanium alloy. This material is very compatible with the tissue and bone man. The implant is integrated gradually to bone and serves as a root crown that goes on top. The success rate of implants from clinical research shows that 95% of success.

It has no age limit to ask implants. For young adults, it is better to wait until after the end of the period of growth, ie approximately 15-20 years. The girls complete their earlier period of growth that guy.

The main criterion to be a good candidate for dental implants: the quality of the bone. It must have enough space, thickness and height requirements. You must be in good health. If you are in good health for extraction, you will be able to receive dental implants. Even if you are over 80 years, you deserve as implants to increase your quality of life. It is never too late to afford a gift to yourself.

Why should I replace missing teeth?

When teeth are gone, loss of bone and gum recession is accelerating. We lose about 30% of the bone during the first years after extracting a tooth. The more you wait, the less remains of bones to put an implant. The loss of bone support decreases the teeth adjacent to the quarry site and may decrease the life of the remaining teeth.

The tooth opposed to the quarry site will emerge more as it did nothing to block it. This can create many problems of occlusion and articulation in the long term. Please see the section on pain and creaking joints.

With missing teeth, the chewing efficiency is reduced significantly. Digestive problems may affect the health and quality of life.

The lack of teeth can cause speech problems. The space between the teeth affects the movement of sound and creates a hiss when talking.

Of temporo-mandibular disorders can occur (see section on the temporo-mandibular disorders).

Is the treatment painful?

The operation is done under local anesthesia and can be done under sedation if the person wants (tranquilizers the day before and one hour before the intervention). Patients feel no sensitivity during treatment. Most patients say that intervention is much simpler he imagined. There are many who return to work the same day, provided they do not take sedation. There is almost no pain the day following the intervention and control it well with medication.

It is normal to have the gums and soft tissues slightly swollen and reddish the first day. If this is the installation of an implant only, there is very little swelling and pain.

What are the steps to put an implant?

In general, there are two steps in the installation of an implant. The dentist raised in the first implant root in the mouth. The implant will be buried in the gums for a period of approximately three to six months to integrate into the bone. Then, the crown of the implant will be cemented after this period of time. Sometimes we can put a crown on the implant in one time. Several alternatives exist: it is preferable that you consult your dentist about the choice of the number of implants posed, position, the waiting time, design of the prosthesis …
